Marlene Stastny

August 14, 1943 — October 19, 2021

Marlene Stastny, 78, of Mandan, passed away October 19, 2021 peacefully at her home surrounded by her loving family. She fought a long courageous battle of cancer.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 AM on Tuesday, October 26, 2021 at Spirit of Life Catholic Church, Mandan, ND with Rev. Todd Kreitinger as celebrant. Burial will be at Mandan Union Cemetery.

Visitation will be held Monday, October 25, 2021 from 5:00-7:00 PM at Weigel Funeral Home, Mandan, with a Rosary/Parish Vigil at 7:00 PM. Visitation will continue at the church one hour prior to the service on Tuesday.

Marlene Stastny, the daughter of Nick and Katherine (Hoffman) Heinrich was born on August 14th, 1943 in Mandan. She was raised and educated in the St Anthony Catholic School.  Marlene was united in Marriage to Tom Stastny on July 1st, 1964 in St Anthony.  After they got married they moved to Hazen and moved back to Mandan 3 months later where they raised their family.

Marlene was a waitress at Ohm’s Café for a short time.  She worked at Cloverdale foods for 28 years until retirement in 2014.  After retirement she cleaned houses part time and was a custodian part time at Mandan schools.  As part of her routine she loved camping from the time they got married until she got sick.  She also loved to go to the Casino for many years.  Marlene and Tom took many cruises together.  Marlene was an avid Vikings fan, loved listening to her old time music, dancing at wedding dances and getting her hair done every Thursday.

Marlene is survived by her husband Tom, son, Kevin Stastny of Mandan and daughter and son-in-law Kim (Jason) Friedt of Bismarck; 5 grandchildren, Brandi (Tiffany) Hardy of Denver; Alex (Lexi) Stastny,  Jake, Kaylee and Lily Friedt, all of Bismarck; 3 great-grandchildren, Dakota, Evalyn and Jasper;  4 sisters, one brother and two brother in laws, Lucille Bullinger, Alice Bullinger, Leona Haugsdal, Arlene (Jim) Fried and Bob (Candice) Stastny all of Mandan; Leo (Vicki) Heinrich of Bismarck.

She was preceded in death by her parents,  Nick and Katherine Heinrich;  her mother and father in law, Thomas and Mary Stastny; one brother, Roger Allan; two sister in laws, Karen Stastny and Linda Stastny; 3 brother in laws, Richard Haugsdal, Ralph Bullinger and Ben Bullinger;  Special family friends, Bill and Kay Braxmeyer.
