Leona Gartner, 80, of St. Anthony, passed away Friday, May 28, 2021 at CHI St. Alexius Medical Center, Bismarck.
A Funeral Service will be held at 1:30 PM on Friday, June 4, 2021 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Mandan, with Deacon Bob Wingenbach presiding. Burial will be at Mandan Union Cemetery.
Visitation will be held Thursday, June 3, 2021 from 4:30-6:00 PM at BUEHLER LARSON Funeral Home, 1701 Sunset Drive, Mandan, with a Rosary/Parish Vigil at 6:00 PM. Visitation will continue at the church one hour prior to the service on Friday.
Leona (Gangl) Gartner, 80 passed away at St. Alexius Medical Center surrounded by her family on May 28, 2021.
Leona was born on January 14, 1941 in St. Anthony, ND, to George Jr and Eleanor (Wetsch) Gangl. She grew up on the farm 1-1/2 miles south of St. Anthony. She attended catholic school in St. Anthony.
She met Franklin K. Gartner in 1957 at a wedding dance. They were married on October 8, 1960. They lived on the Gangl family farm, which they bought in 1964. They raised their family of two sons and four daughters there.
Leona was a housewife and mother. She worked at the Kist Livestock Auction cafeteria, at two daycares for six years, Speedway Restaurant for five years and Capital Lunchroom for five years before she retired.
Leona loved to crochet and made doilies and afghans. She loved to be with her family.
Leona will be missed by her children: Marie (Jim) Nelson of Bismarck, ND, Tom (Shelly) Gartner, St. Anthony, ND, JoAnn (Keith) Humann, Linton, ND, Carol (Tom) Lovell, Gillette, WY, Deb (Paul) Kramer, Bismarck, ND, and Joe (Tiffany) Gartner, Menoken, ND; nine grandchildren, five step-grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, and a sister, Donna (Peter) Kuhn, Bismarck ND.
Leona was preceded in death by her husband, Franklin, who passed away on December 26, 2010; her parents; an infant brother; her sisters and brothers-in-law, Ellen (Martin) Friesz and Marge (Joe) Stegmiller.
Memorials may be directed to Brave the Shave or the St. Joseph Catholic Church Trust Fund.
We love and miss you mom. But we know you are once again united with dad and we will see you again someday.
