Ida Halweg

Ida M. Halweg, 93, of Bismarck, ND, passed away August 16, 2019 at Sanford Medical Center, Bismarck, ND.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 AM on Friday, August 23, 2019 at Corpus Christi Catholic Church, Bismarck, ND. Burial will be at Mandan Union Cemetery.

Visitation will be held Thursday, August 22, 2019 from 5:00-7:00 PM at Weigel Funeral Home, Mandan, with a Rosary/Parish Vigil at 7:00 PM. Visitation will continue at the church one hour prior to the service on Friday.

Ida was born on April 4, 1926 to Wendelin and Katharina Gerwick in the Glen Ullin area.  After the death of her parents in 1931, Ida was adopted by Joseph and Scholastica Gress.  She attended St. Joseph Catholic Grade School and graduated from Mandan High School in 1944.  On October 21, 1946, Ida married Norman Wiedmann; together they raised three children, Arlene, Norman Jr., and Scott.  In 1983, Norman died after a short bout with cancer.  In 1989 she married Al Halweg and they did much traveling together.  Al passed away from cancer in 2002.

Ida worked 30 years with the USDA Northern Great Plains Research Laboratory, retiring March 30, 1991.  She enjoyed sewing, knitting, crocheting, bowling, and was an avid bridge player belonging to several bridge clubs and marathon groups.  She was a member of many organizations throughout her years, PEO being one of her favorites.

Ida will be deeply missed by her daughter, Arlene Stewart; her son, Scott (Colette) Wiedmann; five grandchildren, Amy (Eric) Weiss, Emily (Drew) Dodds, Alex Wiedmann, Nicolette (Luke) Meyer, and Jennifer (Rex) Loomis; 4 great-grandchildren. Her stepchildren, Mary, Jack, Bill, Karen, and their children and grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her birth parents, Wendelin and Katharina Gerwick; her adopted parents, Joseph and Scholastic Gress; all her siblings, her husband, Norman Wiedmann; her husband, Al Halweg; and one son, Norman L. Wiedmann.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Bismarck Cancer Foundation.
