Fanny was born on January 19, 1925 to Louie and Aurora (Ternes) Koch and was the oldest living sibling of 20 children.  She was raised and educated in Shields ND.   Fanny married Martin Deichert Jr. on November 21, 1944.  Together they raised their son Max on their farm south of St. Gertrude where Max resides today.  In 1972, they semi-retired and moved to Flasher.  In 1998, Fanny retired and moved to Mandan.  Fanny and Martin also cared for their very special niece, “Little Genny” (Tishmack) Dienstmann.

Fanny was a devoted wife and loving mother.  She was a wonderful cook, especially German meals.  Her homemade noodles, cheese buttons and kuchen were loved by many.  She was known as “the lady with the green thumb” and could grow anything she touched into something beautiful.  Fanny lived her life for the Lord and volunteered over 50 years in caring for the church and priests in her local parishes of St. Gertrude and St. Lawrence.  She was a member of the Christian Mothers of St. Gertrude and St. Lawrence and also the Catholic Order Foresters.  While at St. Gertrude, Fanny helped paint the high school while her husband Martin laid the floor tile in the school and the church. Fanny loved to dance, host card parties and work outside in her gardens.  She also enjoyed crocheting, canning and playing dominos.

Fanny will be dearly missed by her son, Max; her niece, Genny (Dean); and grandchildren, Cora and Mitch; seven sisters; and four brothers.

Fanny was preceded in death by her loving husband, Martin, her parents, five sisters, three brothers, six brothers-in-law, and her daughter-in-law.

A special thank you to Fanny’s sister Daisy, for spending so much time caring for her and visiting her while in Lakewood and St. Vincents.

Please go to her Tribute Wall to sign the guestbook and share memories with her family.
