Eleanor Knoll

August 6, 1931 — December 11, 2019

Mandan

Eleanor Knoll, 88, of Mandan, passed away December 11, 2019 in a Bismarck care center.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 AM on Saturday, December 14, 2019 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Mandan, ND.  Burial will be at Mandan Union Cemetery.

Visitation will be held Friday, December 13, 2019 from 4:00-8:00 PM at Weigel Funeral Home, Mandan, with a St. Anthony Christian Mothers Rosary at 7:00 PM followed by a Parish Vigil Service.

Eleanor was born on August 6, 1931 to Adam and Magdalene (Schmidt) Friesz in Flasher, ND.  She was raised and educated in the Fallon area.

On May 29, 1951 she married the man she would share 60 years of marriage with, Raymond Knoll. Together they raised their 5 children while farming and ranching on the Knoll Family farm in St. Anthony.  She was a true farmers wife, you could find her in the hayfield, checking on her chickens, or in the house cooking her famous fried chicken and “rubber necks” (fried dough).

Eleanor’s faith was endless, and evident by the way she lived.  She lovingly took care of her husband and prayed for her family often.  She also belonged to the Christian Mothers.  A highlight for Eleanor was driving Ray and Grandma Rose out to the west coast.  She was very proud to say she never had an accident in all of years driving.

Family was always very important to Eleanor, she loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and would always make it a point to take them out to eat and go shopping.  Holidays were always a special event, she continuously made sure everyone had a gift at Christmas and a basket for Easter.

Eleanor will be deeply missed by her daughters, Vickie (Harold) Schmidt and Carol (Bob) Jochim, both of Mandan, Belinda (Dan) Eckroth, Flasher; sons, Gordon (Colleen) Knoll, Mandan and Patrick (Cindy) Knoll, Mandan; 14 grandchildren, Jeremy Schmidt, Valerie Gustavsson, Eric Schmidt, Justin Knoll, Marcus Knoll, Clarrisa Knoll, Sonya Dever, Pamela Reidy, Wyatt Eckroth, Wade Eckroth, Whitney Eckroth, Riley Knoll, Abby Knoll, and Kelly Knoll; 20 great grandchildren, Sydney, Savannah, Sierra, Tucker, Kennedy, Truman, Harrisson, Olivia, Sylvia, Julia, Silas, Evelyn, Eleanor, Paige, Kora,  Todd, Martin, Bodie, Remi Jo, and Tyce; brother, Bill (Geraldine) Friesz; sisters, Kathryn Hopfauf, Lorraine Hitchrich, and Evelyn Morrell; and in-laws, Eilene Paul, Annella and Ray Leingang, Aldean and Mike Paul, and Bob and Marge Knoll.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Raymond (2012); brothers, Urban (Agnes) Friesz, Edward (Elsie) and Bernard; sister, Irene (Louie) Zander; and brothers-in-law, Ralph Hopfauf, Mike Hitchrich, and Larry Morrell.

As Eleanor would say,

“I wish you all the good luck in the world and I will pray for you.”

Please go to her Tribute Wall to sign the guestbook and share memories with her family.
