Obituary

Bernadine Wingerter Tosseth, 94, passed away July 24, 2020, at St. Gabriel’s, Bismarck, ND.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 AM on Wednesday, July 29, 2020 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Mandan, ND with Fr. Joshua Waltz as celebrant. Burial will follow at St. Philomena Cemetery in Selfridge, ND, right after Mass with lunching following at the Branding Iron in Selfridge.

Visitation will be held Tuesday, July 28, 2020 from 2:00 PM-7:00 PM at Weigel Funeral Home, Mandan, with a Rosary/Vigil at 7:00 PM.

Bernadine was born December 14, 1925, to Andrew Heinen and Emma Feurch in Milo, IA. She was raised in Iowa and took care of the family for many years in her younger years. Bernadine moved to Selfridge to keep house for her brother, Fr Victor, at the age of 17.

Bernadine married Conrad Wingerter on June 14, 1944 at St. Philomena in Selfridge, ND. Together they raised their children and took over the family farm. She cooked, baked, and was a caretaker for many years in the Selfridge area. Bernadine played harmonica, was an avid sewer, gardener, and cook. No one ever left her house hungry. She was always reading and enjoyed puzzles, playing bingo, had a collection of cranberry crystals and loved to dance.

Years after Conrad died, she moved to Mandan. On December 23, 1988 she married Edwin Tosseth in Mandan, ND. Bernadine spent her last four years comfortable and with great care at St. Gabriel’s in Bismarck. Bernadine was a vibrant wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother whose wonderful personality, full of laughter and the joy of life, will be missed by all that loved and knew her.

Bernadine will be deeply missed by her daughters, Jane (Robert) Ferderer, Mandan, Maryellen (Dan) Suchan, Rapid City, Marcia (Bill) Boelens, Denton, TX; daughter-in-law, Mary Jane Wingerter, Mandan; sons, Victor (Virginia) Wingerter, Bismarck, Conrad (Janice) Wingerter, Mandan, Donald (Geneva) Wingerter, Golden, CO, Steve  (Karoline) Wingerter, Williston; 19 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; and 1 great-great-grandchild.

Bernadine was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Conrad Wingerter, second husband, Edwin Tosseth; son Kenneth Wingerter granddaughter, Nickole Haider; grandson, Eric Haider, grandson-in-law, Joseph Stark; great-grandson, Aidyn Stark; 5 sisters; 8 brothers; and son-in-law Ed Haider.
