Alvin was born September 27, 1929 in Strasburg, ND, the son of Max and Ludwina (Hummel) Tschosik.  He grew up on the family farm, the oldest of 5 children.  He was educated in Strasburg and went on to further his education at Bismarck Junior College, Valley City State College, & Ellendale College.    He taught school at Temvik and Hague until being elected Emmons County Superintendent of Schools in 1955 at the age of 25, a position he held until he retired in 1988.  His co-workers and students so often would share with him how he made a positive impact on their lives.

Alvin enjoyed helping his family work on all sorts of projects, from building decks to pouring cement, stressing that you don't do anything unless you do it right.   He particularly enjoyed time spent with family, especially his grand & great-grandchildren.   They knew him as a very loving man with the ability to visit so attentively that he made you feel you were his favorite.

Alvin had that rare charisma and connection with people that allowed him to establish deep lasting friendships with people from all walks of life.  Alvin was very involved in the community serving in many compacities in the ND Lung Association, West Central Human Services, Catholic Order of Foresters, Civil Defense Board, Linton Hospital Board, Emmons County Commission, ND Community Action and an active member of St Anthony's Parish.

His hobbies included bowling in his earlier years, playing accordion and harmonica, often playing for family gatherings and elderly care centers, and playing poker and gin with friends and family.

Alvin married Theresa Kelsch on October 19, 1950.  They just celebrated their 70th anniversary last October.  She was the love of his life and his rock.  They were blessed with 5 children, 16 grandchildren, 34 great grandchildren.

Alvin is survived by his wife, Theresa;  three daughters, Theresa (Rick) Kiemele of Bismarck, Mary Ann (Jerome) Traver of Mandan, and Claudia (Dan) Masseth of Bismarck;  two sons, Duane (Mary Jane) Tschosik of Linton, and Alan (Peggy M.) Tschosik of Rockford, MN;  14 grandchildren, Bryan (Leslie) Tschosik, Holly (Bob) Bauman, Theresa (Edmundo) Gonzelez, Andrea (Lee) Slater, Josh (Mia) Kiemele, Lea (Jake) O’Connell, Sarah (Cisco) Sanchez, Ivan (Carol) Traver, Jarrod (Catherine) Traver, Bethanie (Brian) Smith, Danielle (Steve) Duppong, Dustin (Kara H.) Masseth, Douglas (Stephanie) Tschosik, and Rosalynn (Carl) Berg;  many great-grandchildren; one sister, Lucy (Charles) Buck of Manteno, IL;  two sisters-in-law, Marge Tschosik of Bismarck, and Johnie Tschosik of Texas.

Alvin was preceded in death by his parents, five brothers (Jerome, Alois, Max Jr., Peter, & Paul), three grandchildren (Kenyon Paul Taver, Jamison Masseth, & Vida Tschosik); one great-grandson (Brandon Tschosik), one daughter-in-law (Connie Kuntz-Tschosik), and sister-in-law (Virgina Tschosik).

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Missouri Slope Lutheran Care Center, Bismarck, where the care and the compassion given to Alvin was unending, or the St. Anthony Catholic Church Cemetery, Linton.
