Adolph was born September 9, 1934 in Raleigh, ND to John and Emerance (Bonogofsky) Braun. He attended primary school in Raleigh and St. Anthony, ND. He went on to finish his education at the Assumption Abbey in Richardton, ND earning his high school diploma in 1954. He enlisted in the US Army in April 1955, serving two years with an honorable discharge in April 1957.
Adolph married Helen Alvina Hersch in a double wedding ceremony with Helen’s brother, Edwin, and his bride Alvina on October 1, 1957. They lived on the family farm settled by his Dad, nine miles SW of Raleigh, ND, until they moved to Mandan in the fall of 1984.
Adolph was a soft-spoken person who revered the term “humble and kind”. This was evident in the gentle way he cared for his family and the farm he loved so much. Adolph raised prized Hereford bulls with his Dad and sold them all over the state of ND. Horses were his favorite passion and he would tame and ride them every chance he got away from the normal everyday farm life. After retirement, he enjoyed watching the Minnesota Twins and Vikings games on tv and occasionally in person. A favorite pastime was reading a good book where he had a diverse range of favorite authors from John Grisham to Danielle Steele and Nicholas Sparks.
Adolph was a devout Catholic and rarely missed his “prayer hour” date with Helen every Tuesday at St. Joseph Church. He was also a 3rd degree member of the Knights of Columbus Council #2760.
Adolph is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Helen; two sons, Bruce (Diane) and Bernie, both of Mandan; one daughter, Barb (Jerry) Lantz, Mandan; two sisters-in-law, Lydia (Pius) Braun, Mandan and Angie (Adam) Braun, Bismarck.
