Theresa was born on April 4, 1928, to Henry and Anna (Wetsch) Knoll. She was the baby in a family of 12 children (nine boys and three girls) with a fitting nickname of “Babe.” She was raised and educated in St. Anthony, ND.
On November 10, 1947, she married Hyacinth Leingang. They lived many places including St. Anthony, Selfridge, Velva, Mandan, Washburn, and (for a short time) Dillworth, MN. Their retirement years were spent in Mandan. They enjoyed many bus tours across the country together and were avid Minnesota Twins baseball fans.
Theresa was an excellent cook and baker and loved to feed people, especially her family. She worked in food service most of her life where she made great friends and was considered famous for her amazing caramel rolls. She also loved fashion and was always particular about how she was dressed and keeping her hair styled. She loved jewelry and had something for each outfit.
Theresa had a zest for life and loved to play pinochle, bunko, and bingo. She was always up for a game of pinochle and was a sought after partner at the senior center. She helped her children and grandchildren learn pinochle as well – she was very competitive and loved to win! She was active in the community and was a member of the Catholic Daughters, American Legion Aux., Christ the King Catholic Church, and the senior centers in Mandan and Velva.
Theresa is survived by her daughter, Vickie Bodin of Ulen, MN; four sons, Lamont (Mary) of Velva, ND, Chuck (Robin) of Elk River, MN, Gordon (Mavis) of Hazen, ND, Mike (Shawn) of Washburn, ND; 12 grandchildren, Don, Brian, Mark, Rod, Amy, Aaron, Alexia, Nicci, Jenna, Tyler, Dillon, Jessica; 26 great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Hyacinth; infant daughter, Victoria; grandsons, Jamie and Joshua Leingang; sons-in-law, Donald Brossart and Bob Bodin; siblings and their spouses, Rose (Jack) Leingang, Pauline (Anton) Cermak, Mike (Helen), Anton (Martha), Alphonae (Mary), George (Rose), Paul (Veronica), Phil (Stephanie), Martin, Joseph, Thomas (Irene); and numerous nieces and nephews.
Theresa’s family would like to send a heartfelt thank you to the staff, residents, and management of ProHealth Home Care in Minot, ND for the great care and treating Theresa as a unique individual and friend. They would also like to thank Fr. Ken Phillips for his prayers, friendship, and spiritual direction and Caring Edge Hospice for the care and direction they provided.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery in Mandan or to a charity of the donor’s choice.
