Steven Yellow, 45, of Bismarck, passed away peacefully on October 9th, 2025, at Sanford Medical Center in Bismarck, ND surrounded by family.
Cremation has taken place and the family will be accepting friends from 11:00 AM to 12:30 PM Thursday, October 16th at Weigel Funeral Home in Mandan. Burial will follow at 1:00 PM Thursday at the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery will full military honors.
Steven was born November 19th, 1979, to Steve and Joette Yellow in Fort Yates, ND. He attended Fort Yates Public Elementary School in Fort Yates and graduated from Standing Rock High School in 1998. Steve was a part of the 1998 Class B State Championship Basketball Team. He attended Bismarck State College and Sitting Bull College.
Steven enlisted in the United States Army in 2000 and stayed in the military until 2004. He deployed to Iraq during Iraqi Freedom and served in combat with The War Eagle Squadron in Baghdad. Steve was a CPL in The First Squadron Second Armored Cavalry Regiment. He was awarded the Army Achievement Medal, National Defense Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, and Army Service Ribbon.
After the military, Steve held various jobs throughout the years including Data Technician, oil field worker, and as a Chef. But if you ask him, the best job title he ever held was being called dad.
Steve enjoyed being outdoors. Hunting, fishing, target shooting, and cooking were a few of his favorite things. He was an avid Star Trek and Star Wars fan.
Steven is survived by Xavier, Madison and Liam Yellow; parents, Steve and Joette Yellow; sister, Melissa Yellow; brother, Christopher Yellow; maternal grandfather, Marvin Borgerson; aunts, Renae (Myron) Heintz, Jackie Yellow, Joyce Ducker, Renee (Jim) Cournoyer, & Vivian Yellow; uncle, Lonny Borgerson; cousins, Torrie Bueling, TJ (Amanda) Yellow, Lisa (Palani) Luger, Brandon (Wendi) Yellow, Kyle (Sharon) Laundreaux, Amanda (Rob) Andrews, & Richard Laundreaux.
He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents (Arthur & Georgina Yellow), maternal grandmother (Annette Borgerson), uncles (Timothy & Glenn Yellow), & aunt (Laurie (Yellow) Lindteigen).
The family wishes to extend our gratitude to the Bismarck Police Department, Bismarck Ambulance, Bismarck Fire Department and all Steve’s doctors and nurses at Sanford Medical Center.
