Steve A. Schneider, age 76, of Mandan, passed away peacefully at his home, surrounded by family, on June 27, 2026, after a courageous battle with cancer.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 AM on Tuesday, July 7 at Spirit of Life Catholic Church, Mandan. Burial will follow at the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5-7 PM on Monday, July 6 at Weigel Funeral Home in Mandan with a Rosary & Parish Vigil at 7 PM. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service at the church.
Steve was born on the family farm in Kintyre, ND on July 3, 1949, to Matt and Agatha (Hilzendeger) Schneider. He graduated from Napoleon High School in 1967. Steve enlisted in the US Army, serving in Vietnam from 1967 to 1969, as a gunner and driver for the C Troop Company Commander. He received many honors, including the Purple Heart and the Bronze Star Medal, to name a few.
Steve began his trucking career in 1970, and retired in 2023. During those years, he drove for Lindeman Construction and other companies until founding J & S Heavy Haul in 1994. In 2003, he started Steve Schneider Inc.
In November 2006, Steve married the love of his life Malinda “Lynn” Pulkrabek, when the two eloped to Laughlin, Nevada.
When he wasn't behind the wheel of a semi, Steve enjoyed spending time with Lynn riding motorcycles, participating in tractor treks, gardening, and mowing the yard. Together, they also spent countless hours in the shop restoring tractors and semi's. In his younger years, Steve raced stock cars at Dakota Speedway. He loved his dogs and cherished time with his grandchildren, especially making them breakfast and teaching them how to drive a tractor. If the shop door was open, friends and neighbors knew they were always welcome to stop in for a beer. Along the way, Steve formed many lasting friendships.
Steve will be deeply missed by his wife, Malinda “Lynn” Schneider; his children, Amy (Mark) Roberts, Jessica Schneider (Ed Kinvig), Michael (Dana) Scholl, Lacey (Jared) Christensen, and T.J. (Onika) Edinger; his grandchildren, Lexie (Blake) Schepp, Luke Roberts, Zoey Schneider, Sam Schneider, Kendra and Kyla Christensen, A.J. and Maisy Scholl, and Leighton Edinger; and his dogs, Lilly and Buddy. Steve is also survived by his siblings, Thomas Schneider, Darlene (Bob) Neugebauer, Shirlene (Bob) Jensen, and LoAnn (Dan) Getz; sister-in-law, Jane Schneider; as well as many nieces and nephews.
Steve was preceded in death by his parents; son, Bill Schneider; brothers, Alvin (Marlys) and James Schneider; and his sister, Mary Lou (Tony) Johs.
The family would like to give a special thank you to Sanford Hospice nurses and everyone else who provided care for Steve.
