Sherwood James Nutz was born on May 9, 1947 to Arthur and Erna (Hannemann) Nutz in Harvey, ND. He attended Harvey High School and graduated in 1965. After high school, he moved to Lodi, California where he worked for Macy’s until he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force on December 1, 1967. He received an Honorable Discharge on January 22, 1970 – with time served in Alaska and Minot Airforce Bases. On February 14, 1972 he married the love of his life, JoAnn Zerr at St. Cecilia Catholic Church in Harvey. After their marriage the couple moved to Sioux City, Iowa for a short time where he began employment with Payless Shoe Source as Regional Supervisor until 1975. He moved back to Harvey where he owned and operated Sherwood’s Clothing Store. In 1980 he began his 15 year career working for Schwan’s Food Service as a route delivery driver. In 1995, he began employment with the Sara Lee Bread Company as a route salesman and was employed with the company until 2011 when he sustained a work related injury.
Sherwood had a love for airplanes and always enjoyed going to air shows. This passion inspired him to take pilot lessons and work for his uncle who was a crop sprayer. Sherwood enjoyed sitting on the deck with his wife having a pop and great conversations with family. He looked forward to weekly visits and nighttime phone calls from his daughter and son. He provided the family with many weather reports and could always tell you what the upcoming week’s weather was going to be.
Sherwood will be deeply missed by his wife, JoAnn of Mandan; one son, Sherwood (Tamera) Nutz of Loveland, CO.; one daughter, Stacie (Rick) Gardner of Bismarck; 3 grandchildren, Alisha, Alexis and Kylee; 4 great grandchildren; and one sister, Verla (Willard) Reichenberger of Minot, ND.
He is preceded in death by his parents, one sister, and many other relatives and friends.
