Paul E. Trauger, 83, Mandan, passed away December 19, 2023, at Sanford Hospital, Bismarck, ND, after a cardiac arrest while suffering from Parkinson’s and dementia.

A Funeral Service will be held at 1:00 PM on Friday, December 29, 2023, at Weigel Funeral Home, Mandan.  Burial will be at Mandan Union Cemetery.

Cremation has taken place, and the family will greet friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home on Friday.   

Paul E. Trauger was born on September 15, 1940, to Noah and Luetta Trauger. He grew up among his siblings, Roseann, Kenneth, Calvin, Mildred, and Margaret. Born and raised as a farmer and rancher, he later worked as a trucker. Paul graduated from NDSU with degrees and Accounting and Land Surveying later in life. He found a career as a CPA, working as a comptroller of University of Mary until 1978 and working as a tax accountant on the side until 2018. Paul also served as Morton County Auditor for 32 years ending in 2011.

Paul married Maryann Fairfield in 1963, with whom he had his only son, Paul Jeffrey, Sr. They built the house that they lived in and still stands today in 1978. There were happily married for 55 years.

Paul spent his retirement caring for his family, hunting deer with friends, and watching his favorite TV shows and college football.

Paul will be deeply missed by his son, Paul Jeffrey, Sr.; grandchildren, Cole, Paul Jeffrey, Jr, Tawnie, and Jasmine; and great-grandchild, Gabriel.

Paul was preceded in death by his wife, Maryann; parents; siblings; daughter-in-law, Nicole Trauger; and grandson, Francis Dakoteau.
