Mandan

Merry Wetsch, 75, of Mandan, passed away March 25, 2024, at Miller Pointe Care Center in Mandan after a short battle with cancer.

Per Merry’s wishes for a simple service, an informal Celebration of Life service will be held at 10:30 AM on Friday, March 29, 2024, at Weigel Funeral Home, Mandan, with Pastor Bruce Adams officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the time of service.  Private family burial will be held at Mandan Union Cemetery.

Merry was born February 10, 1949, in Mandan, ND to Fred & Helen (Valenta) Hirsch.  She graduated from Mandan High School in 1967, and continued her education at UND graduating in 1972, with a degree in Medical Technology.  Merry married Delvin Wetsch and they had two children, Jennifer and Jamie.  Merry later went back to college, graduating from BSC in 2001, with a paralegal certificate.   She then worked for Christianson and Thompson Law Firm, Mandaree Medical, and Bormann, Myerchin, & Espeseth Law Office before retiring in 2019.

Merry’s hobbies included, changing out her home décor for every season, designing floral arrangements, and working in her flower gardens in the summer.  Her love for flowers came from years of working at her brother’s floral business, Hirsch Florist, in Mandan.  Merry was also a music lover. She dusted off her high school clarinet and played in the early years of the West River Winds community band.  She enjoyed watching old musicals on DVD and listening to CD’s, especially Elvis, Barry Manilow, and Neil Diamond.

Grateful for having shared in her life are her children, Jennifer (Brian) Jessen of Bismarck and Jamie (Missy) Wetsch of Mandan; 4 grandchildren, Riley, Ryan, Austin Wetsch, and Kylee Jessen; two brothers, Steven Hirsch of Mandan and David (Fatima) Hirsch of Bismarck; one brother-in-law, Tracy Stein (Judy Volk); niece, Emily (Tyler) Laycock of Winnipeg, Canada; and nephew, Vini Hirsch of Brazil.

Welcoming her in heaven are her parents and sister, Janna Stein.

Merry’s family would like to thank Sanford Hospice and the staff of Miller Pointe for taking good care of her the past several months.
