Melvin Miller, age 90, of Mandan, died September 17, 2025.

A funeral service will be held at 10 AM on Monday, September 22, 2025, at Weigel Funeral Home, Mandan, with Deacon Kevin Leingang officiating. Burial will be at the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery with full military honors. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

Mel was born February 4, 1935, to Peter and Clara (Lauinger) Miller in St. Anthony, ND. He was raised and educated in Mandan. Mel enlisted in the US Army, serving in Germany from 1955 to 1957. Returning home, Mel married Ann Hubbocks in 1965, and they made their home in Mandan where they raised their two children.

Mel was a commercial contract painter for many years. He was an enthusiastic regular on the greens at Mandan and Prairie West golf courses and was a golf ball finder extraordinaire. Mel had a quick wit, sharp memory, and was a master storyteller. He was a history buff and enjoyed researching maps.

He lived his life in full force and his family always heard him, as did everyone else. He was fiercely devoted to his family, with his own special kind of energy. Mel gave and received love beyond measure to and from his children and grandchildren. He cherished his special bond as a proud Papa, full of exuberant love.

Mel will be deeply missed by his children, Paul (Linda) Miller and Sarah (Kurt) Ferderer; his three cherished grandchildren, Luke and Claire Ferderer and Alysha (Nic) Merenz; one great-grandchild, Theo Merenz; brothers, Tony Miller, Don (Judy) Miller, and Wayne Miller; sister, Mary Jane Reid; many nieces and nephews; as well as his special morning coffee club buddies.

Mel was preceded in death by his wife Ann in 2020. They shared 54 years together. Also preceding him in death was an infant son, John; his parents; an infant sister, Delores; and brothers, Jerry, Leo, and Larry.
