With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of our beloved son and brother, Markus John “Marky” Fleck, who passed away at his home on August 18, 2026, at the age of 22.
A private Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Spirit of Life Catholic Church, Mandan, with Fr. Johnson Simethy officiating. Burial will be at Mandan Union Cemetery.
Private visitation and Prayer Service will be held at Weigel Funeral Home, Mandan.
Markus was born August 17, 2004, in Bismarck, North Dakota, the youngest of four children to William M. and Amy (Rothenbacher) Fleck. He grew up in Mandan, where he attended Roosevelt Elementary, Mandan Middle School, and graduated from Mandan High School in 2023. He worked a variety of jobs in the service industry during middle school and high school. The job he was most proud of was refereeing soccer at the age of 12. Most recently, he was employed at Cricket Wireless as a sales associate.
Those who knew Markus knew there was never a shortage of personality. He was sarcastic, funny, and competitive, with a quick wit and a sense of humor that was distinctly his own. He played sports from an early age, including soccer and track. When he was little, he loved playing board games with his siblings, where his competitive nature quickly developed. He was also a fan of Legos, Pokémon, Yu-Gi-Oh!, and Skylanders. As Markus got older, some of those interests changed, but his competitive nature remained. He enjoyed playing video games, working out, and being health-conscious—except when it came to blue candy. He loved blue raspberry drinks, and, plenty of Extra gum, which his dad always made sure to buy for him.
Markus had a personality all his own, he was one of a kind, and those who knew him will remember his humor, competitiveness, and the many little things that made him “Marky.” His family and friends will treasure the everyday memories: his favorite games and foods, the jokes and teasing, and the time spent together.
Markus is survived by his parents, William Fleck and Amy Fleck; his siblings, William, Maiya, and August Fleck; aunt, Colette Fleck; uncles, Emanuel Fleck and Ron Rothenbacher as well as many extended family members and friends who loved him dearly.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Emanuel Sr. and Kathleen Fleck and George and Mary Rothenbacher; and his uncle, Derek Fleck.
Markus’s life was far too short, but the love, laughter, stories, and memories he leaves behind will remain in the hearts of those who knew and loved him. His family will forever remember the little things that made Markey who he was. He will be deeply loved, deeply missed, and forever remembered.
