Lynn Fairfield

November 4, 1943 — April 9, 2018

Lynn J. Fairfield, of Bismarck, ND, formerly of Valley City, ND, passed away on April 9, 2018.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Joseph Church, Mandan, ND, at 11:00 am on Saturday May 12, 2018. Visitation will be held at Weigel Funeral Home from 5:00-8:00 pm on Friday May 11, 2018 with a Catholic Daughters rosary at 7:00 pm.

Lynn Julius Fairfield was born in Valley City, ND, on November 4, 1943, to James and Ann Fairfield.  Lynn graduated from St. Catherine's High School and from Valley City State University with a Bachelor of Science Degree in English/Language Arts, Speech, and Library Science.  Lynn taught school for several years in North Dakota before moving to Minnesota.  He taught at Plummer, Campbell, and North Branch, MN.  From 1989 to 2009 Lynn was the Media Specialist at the North Branch Area Primary School in North Branch, MN.

Lynn received a Master of Science Degree from Moorhead State University, Moorhead, MN in 1973 in Mass Communications.  In 1989, he received a Master of Science Degree from Tri-College University (North Dakota State University, Moorhead State University, Concordia College) in Educational Administration.  He was a member of the North Branch Education Association, Minnesota Education Association, and participated in Government Relations, Communications, and Staff Development while in North Branch.

Lynn married Gerri Maasjo on December 22, 1968, in Fargo, ND.  Two daughters were born to that union.  After his retirement in 2009 he moved to Bismarck where he met Jan Bond in 2010.  They were married on May 20, 2011 and have happily resided in Bismarck.  Lynn and his wife Jan enjoyed dancing weekly, riding bike, taking walks together, playing cards with friends and traveling.

Lynn was a passionate outdoorsman, sportsman, conservationist, and was a voracious reader.  Since moving to Bismarck in 2009 he read every Western novel in the Bismarck Public Library.  He was currently on the letter R in the Mandan Public Library.  One of Lynn's great joys was to generously share the walleye he caught with family and friends.  He was an avid bow and rifle hunter who donated the meat from his successful hunts to the Sportsman Against Hunger Program.  He was a member of St. Joseph's Church, Mandan, ND, as well as the Bismarck Elks Club, North American Hunting Club, North American Fishing Club, and the National Rifle Association.

This wonderful man will be lovingly remembered by his wife Jan Bond, daughter Kristi Fairfield, Fargo, ND, daughter and son-in-law Kerri Fairfield Freeman and Olen Freeman, Fargo, ND, three grandsons, Alex Fairfield, and Bodhi and Kai Freeman; stepsons Ryan Bond, Minneapolis, MN, and Casey and Jenny Bond, Denver, CO; and sisters and brothers Maryann and Paul Trauger, Mandan, ND, Mark and Carol Fairfield, Fargo, ND, Verna and Vern Masterson, Greeley, CO, and Dan and Rhonda Fairfield, Valley City, ND, along with numerous nieces and nephews, extended family and many friends.

Lynn was preceded in death by his parents, James and Ann Fairfield, Valley City, ND.

Inurnment will be held at St. Catherine's Cemetery, Valley City, ND, at a later date.

Arrangements are being handled by Weigel Funeral Home Mandan, ND.

Should family and friends desire, in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Joseph Church, Mandan, ND, Sportsmen Against Hunger, the Bismarck Public Library or the Morton Mandan Public Library.
