Lily Klein, 97, of Spearfish, South Dakota and formerly of Carson, North Dakota passed away August 8, 2018 at the Belle Fourche Healthcare Community.
She was born March 5, 1921 in Sheffield, England to Christopher and Nellie Parker. Lily entered the British Army in 1942. She met the love of her life, Andy Klein, at a USO dance in London. They were married in Sheffield, England on March 31, 1945. A year later on March 30, 1946, she boarded the Queen Mary to make the voyage to join her American Sweetheart in Carson, North Dakota. It was there that they raised their five children.
Lily worked for the Carson School District for 25 years. They resided in Carson until 2006 at which time they moved to Mandan, North Dakota. Andy passed away in July of 2007. Lily moved to Tuk-R-Inn in Spearfish, SD in August of 2007, where she lived for 11 years.
She was a member of the Carson Homemakers, the American Legion Auxiliary and the St. Theresa Alter Society. She was proud of her naturalized citizenship. She enjoyed knitting, dancing, baking and playing cards.
She is survived by her children, Marvin Klein of Solen, ND, Ray (Joan) Klein of Belle Fourche, Steven Klein of Coon Rapids, MN and Mary Kay Budmayr of Belle Fourche; 13 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren; a sister Winnie and brother, Joe; many nieces, nephews and other extended family.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Christopher and Nellie; son, Tony; daughter-in-law, Nancy Klein; 5 brothers and 5 sisters.
Visitation will be Sunday, August 12 from 6:00 to 7:00 PM (Mountain Time) at St. Theresa Catholic Church in Carson, ND followed by a Christian Wake at 7:00 PM (Mountain Time).
Mass of Christian Burial will be Monday, August 13 at 10:00 AM (Mountain Time) at St. Theresa Catholic Church with Interment following at 3:00 PM (Central Time) at the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery in Mandan, North Dakota.
