Leo Schwartz, 96, Mandan, was welcomed into Heaven on May 12, 2026, at Sanford Health in Bismarck.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 1 PM on Tuesday, May 19, 2026, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Mandan, with Fr. Josh Waltz celebrating. Burial will follow at Mandan Union Cemetery.
Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 PM on Monday, May 18, at Weigel Funeral Home, Mandan, with a Parish Rosary and Vigil service beginning at 7 p.m. The family will greet friends one hour prior to the service at the church on Tuesday.
Leo was born on November 12, 1929, in Solen, the tenth of thirteen children born to John and Magdalena (Kuntz) Schwartz. He was raised on the family farm in Solen. On October 7, 1953, Leo married Stephanie Leingang at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Mandan.
Leo farmed on the family homestead alongside his wife, whose dedicated support and partnership remained by his side throughout the years, until their retirement in 1989. Leo and Stephanie then moved to Mandan, where he worked various janitorial jobs until fully retiring.
Leo enjoyed playing cards with family and friends, as well as fishing and hunting. He also faithfully served for many years as a trustee for Sacred Heart Church in Solen.
Leo was a soft-hearted man who will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him. Blessed to have shared in his life are his wife of 72 years, Stephanie Schwartz; their children, Charlene (Roger) Schlinger, Brenda (Randy) Miller, Jonathan Schwartz (Sandy Fisher), and Dwight (Laurie) Schwartz; nine grandchildren, Shannon (Daisy) Schlinger, Crystal (Brent) Kraft, Jamie Miller, Brittany Miller, Akicia (Blake) Riedinger, Chance (Jayme) Schwartz, Danielle Schwartz, Kylie (Sam) Fox, and Tristen (Lexi) Schwartz; 17 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.
Leo was preceded in death by his parents and all of his siblings.
