Leo was born on March 31, 1927 to Leo and Theresa (Rebenitsch) Bauer, Sr. in Fort Rice, ND. He was raised and educated in the Fort Rice and Judson area. He was drafted into the Army at the beginning of the Korean War and later was honorably discharged. He enjoyed playing softball with the Fort Rice softball team when he was younger. Thereafter, he met the love of his life, Marie Charvat at a dance at St. Anthony Hall. They were married on November 5, 1951 and they began their life together as beef and dairy farmers. On their farm they raised seven children. Farming and his John Deere tractors were a passion for Leo along with his sons Larry and Leon. Leo’s faith and family were central in his life and he was devoted to both. Making sure his daughter’s Janelle, Brenda and Jolene went to all their Horse and Saddle Club events. He also enjoyed going to the Dakota Speedway to watch his son, Darrell race. He was an avid Minnesota Vikings and Twins fan. His daughter and son-in-law, Connie and Larry took him to a Vikings game and he said, “It was the highlight of his life.” He was a lifelong member of the Fort Rice Catholic Church until a tornado destroyed it where he then became a member of St. Martins Catholic Church in Huff. He was currently a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church. Leo was an active member of the Mandan Rural Fire Department where he was a director for several years. He was also a member of the Mandan Moose and Mandan Eagles.

Leo and Marie moved to Mandan in 2000. There he had more time to relax where he found enjoyment in his grandchildren, gardening, paying pinochle and listening and dancing to old-time polka’s and waltzes. He found a new hobby in fishing where he would only fish from shore because he never wanted to get into a boat.

Leo will be deeply missed by his loving wife of 64 years, Marie, Mandan; daughters, Connie (Larry) Schafer and Janelle (Keith) Boehm both of Mandan and Brenda (Blaine) Schell, Bismarck; sons, Larry and Darrell (Joyce) both of Mandan and Leon (Susan) Baldwin, ND; 22 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren and brother, Joe (Marlene) Bauer, Fort Rice, ND.

Leo was preceded in death by his parents Leo and Theresa Bauer, daughter, Jolene Bauer (7-13-15); sister, Mary Ann (Robert) Just and brother, Ray (Helen) Bauer.
