In her lifetime, the driving force for Lenis Volk was faith, family, and friends. All of the choices that she made could be traced back to one or all of these.

Lenis was a devout Catholic all of her life. It started young when she graduated high school from The Priory High School in Bismarck, ND in 1968. She found comfort in the church and when she wasn’t near her parish, she would seek out one closest to her. If that wasn’t an option, you could hear her listening to a service online, praying along as if she was there in person. But just attending church daily wasn’t enough. She also joined different women' s and the widows’ groups at the church, sharing her faith with those who she could relate to, who loved the church as much as she did.

She loved spending time with her family. She would travel hundreds of miles to play a simple “May I” card game. Late into the night, it wouldn’t take much to get her to agree to one more sip of Mogen David wine and one more hand of cards while singing along to Outlaw County on Pandora. Not only did she love to play, she loved to suck a new person into the game, hoping to spread the fun she found in playing this and other games.

Lenis would always admit two things...One, was that she was always a farmer at heart. The other was that she could talk to anyone. As a result, she made a friend wherever she went. Her favorite place to go was the Senior Center in Bismarck, and a trip there on Wednesday meant all day Wednesday. She would excitedly report that she went for breakfast, and then stayed and learned how to play cribbage, and then stayed to watch a movie (but not one of those bad ones), and then stayed and had lunch, and then stayed to play bingo, and then stayed to listened to live music and then finally came home tired and happy.

After fighting bravely through several health challenges, Lenis was called to heaven on August 22, 2026, to the sorrow of family and friends. She left behind her daughters, Darby and Theresa (Jake) Harsha; her sisters, Jo (Tony) Bender, Jackie (Clyde) Staiger, and Robyne (Donnie) Staiger; her brothers, Sherril, Tim (Dianne), Randy (Tammy), Callen and Cordel; her in-laws, Raynard Mosbrucker, Ronald (Arlene) Volk, Jim (Cathie) Volk, and Bonnie Sanders; and countless nieces and nephews and dear friends. The greatest loves of her life were her two grandsons, Willem and Sam Harsha.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Wayne Volk; her parents, George and Eugenia Doll; her sister, Jerry Lou Mosbrucker; and her in-laws, Marilyn Doll, Pete and Margaret Volk, and Hugh Sanders.
