Larry James Giesinger, 73, Bismarck, ND, joined his beloved granddaughter Kendra in heaven on August 18, 2018. He passed peacefully surrounded by his wife and three children. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Spirit of Life, 801 1st Street SE, Mandan on Thursday, August 23 at 10:30 a.m. with family visitation one hour prior to service. Family will be receiving friends and celebrating Larry’s life on Wednesday, August 22 from 5:00 - 8:00 p.m. with a 7:00 p.m. prayer service at Weigel Funeral Home, 309 4th Avenue NW, Mandan.
Larry was born in Hazen, ND on January 10, 1945 and his family later moved to Mandan. Larry graduated from Mandan High School in 1963 and married his high school sweetheart, Sylvia Fibiger on June 27, 1964. They raised their three “perfect” children in Bismarck. The majority of Larry’s career was spent at NCDC (North Central Data Cooperative), now NISC (National Information Solutions Cooperative). He worked as an education manager and project manager, traveling throughout the country to telephone and utility cooperatives. He was passionate about his work and enjoyed helping his customers and employees succeed.
Larry was so very proud of his children and grandchildren. His life centered around spending time with family whenever possible. Larry was so excited to meet each new grandchild who call him “Papa Larry”.
Papa Larry kept the family happy with food, including German favorite knoephla and kraut, porcupine meatballs, banana bread, apple and pumpkin pies, Chex Mix and more. He also helped make and transport Sylvia’s coveted caramel rolls. Larry enjoyed boating, fishing, bowling, playing cards, watching Clint Eastwood movies and sports, talking about politics, and especially joking around with his children and grandchildren.
Larry will be deeply missed by his wife of 54 years, Sylvia; children Scott (Sue) Giesinger (Onalaska, WI), Terri (Tom) Lindfors (Champlin, MN), Jason (Ashley) Giesinger (Keller, TX); grandchildren Cole Lindfors, Joshua and Katelyn Giesinger, Georgia, Amabel, Willa, and August Giesinger; his sister Judy (Dieter) Roesel (St. Augustin, Germany); and brother Eldon (Milvi) Giesinger (El Sobrante, CA). He was preceded in death by his granddaughter Kendra Lindfors, parents Ralph and Ida Giesinger, and brother Dennis Giesinger.
Larry’s wish is for his ashes to be buried next to his granddaughter Kendra in New Hope, MN at Gethsemane Cemetery. Burial will be scheduled at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Kendra Rae Lindfors Memorial Scholarship Fund.
