With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Jan L. MaChette, who left us in 2025. Jan was a devoted wife, loving mother, caring sister, and a dear friend to many. Her warmth, wit, and unwavering dedication to her family will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
Jan was born in Augusta, Georgia, on March 27, 1956, and was raised in Minot, North Dakota. She graduated from Minot High School in the class of 1974. Soon after, she moved to Oregon, where she met the love of her life, Frank MaChette. Together, they built a life filled with love, laughter, and adventure, and were blessed with their daughter, Tani MaChette - the light of Jan's life.
Jan had a vibrant and nurturing spirit. She was a homemaker and caregiver, always putting her loved ones first. She took great joy in hosting family gatherings, cooking delicious meals, and offering her generous heart to everyone around her. Her green thumb turned any garden into a place of beauty, and her knack for entertaining made every guest feel at home. Her bright smile and quick wit could lift the spirits of those around her, and her love for her doggies and grand doggies added joy to her days. Jan and Frank ran a family business and a homestead farm together, making their home in Oregon until 2010, when they moved to North Dakota to be closer to family. Her family meant everything to her, and her presence was a constant source of comfort and strength.
Jan is survived by her beloved husband, Frank MaChette; her cherished daughter, Tani MaChette; her loving siblings: Christina (Lance) Haugen, Shari Johnson, Shannon Johnson, and Layne Johnson. She also leaves behind her nieces and nephews: Jordan Felix (CA), Alana Sepulveda (CA), Cody Haugen (ND, Levi Haugen (AZ), and Kendra (Mike) Neff (ND). She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Dorothy Johnson, and her in-laws, Patricia and Frank MaChette.
To celebrate Jan's life, an open house will be held on June 13th from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. at 2525 Skyline Drive, Minot, ND 58703. All who knew and loved Jan are welcome to attend and share memories of the wonderful woman who touched so many lives.
Jan will forever be remembered for her generosity, humor, and the love she poured into her family and friends. Her legacy lives on in the hearts of all who had the joy of knowing her.
