James Lee Zander (Fuzz), 77, of Bismarck, passed away November 28, 2021, at Miller Pointe, Mandan.
A Funeral Service will be held at 10:30 AM on Monday, December 6, 2021, at Weigel Funeral Home, Mandan, ND with Msgr. Jim Braaten as celebrant. Burial will be at the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery.
Visitation will be held Sunday, December 5, 2021, from 6:00-7:00 PM at Weigel Funeral Home, Mandan, with a Rosary/Parish Vigil at 7:00 PM.
James was born on October 7, 1944, to Liberatus F. Zander and Margaret (Steckler) Zander in Mandan, ND. He was raised on the family farm NW of Mandan around the Crown Butte area.
Around the age of 13, James and his family moved from the farm to reside in Mandan. James attended school in Mandan, where he graduated from Mandan High School on May 28, 1962.
James joined the North Dakota Army National Guard on April 28, 1966. While being a member of the North Dakota Army National Guard, he achieved the rank of E-6 SSG. On May 2, 1992, he retired after 26 years of service.
On July 29, 1967, James married Gloria Frey. It was a special day for James on May 29, 1971 as his daughter LauraLee Marie Zander was born.
James worked as a laborer at Cretex Concrete Products West Inc. in Menoken, ND. He often told family and friends about the length and height of the concrete bridge beams that he helped make. He and his brother Ted were employed for many years at the Cretex plant until his retirement.
James will be deeply missed by his grandchildren, Devin Dwelle, Bismarck, ND, Brittany Williams (fiancé, Alan Smith), Colonial Heights, VA, Ashley Williams, Oswego, IL, Tyler Williams, Oswego, IL; great-grandchildren, Wyatt Smith and baby due in 2022; sisters, Mary Knoll, Bismarck, ND, Kathleen (John) Brilz, San Pablo CA; along with numerous nieces and nephews.
James was preceded in death by his daughter, LauraLee Marie Williams; parents, Liberatus and Margaret Zander; sisters, Monica (Tony) Yantzer, Helen (Joseph) Doll; brothers, Liberatus (Mary) Zander, Richard (Beatrice) Zander, Theodore Zander; brother-in-law, Mike Knoll.
