James "Jim" Benton

February 14, 1951 — June 2, 2026

James "Jim" Benton, 75, passed away on June 2, 2026, at a Bismarck Care Center. He was born on February 14, 1951, to Wilmer Benton and Victoria Burington, in Minot, ND. He is survived by his brother, Michael Benton.

James was a true wanderer, a man whose love for life took him far and wide. His journeys were so extensive that he occupied three pages in his brother’s address book; a true testament to the many lives he touched. He had a gift for connecting with people and rarely met a stranger; a handshake and a story from James could brighten anyone’s day.

James loved the freedom of the open road, especially cruising on his motorcycle to Sturgis, yet no matter how far he roamed, Bismarck remained his safe haven, a place he returned to again and again.

Plans are to scatter James’s ashes on the banks of the Missouri River the third week of September 2026. Family, friends, and anyone who wishes to join this farewell are welcome to contact Michael at gardenace55@live.com. James’s adventurous spirit, warm heart, and love for connection will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
