James Boehm

James A. “Jim” Boehm, 66, Mandan, passed away August 8, 2014 at his home.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 am on Wednesday, August 13, 2014 at Christ the King Catholic Church, Mandan, ND with Father Nick Schneider as celebrant. Burial will be at the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery.

Visitation will be held Tuesday, August, 12, 2014 from 12:00-8:00 pm at Weigel Funeral Home, with a Men of the Moose Ritual at 6:30 pm followed by a Rosary/Parish Vigil at 7:00 pm. Visitation will continue at the church one hour prior to the service on Wednesday.

Jim was born on May 22, 1948 in Mandan, to Elizabeth “Betty” Boehm. He grew up in Mandan and graduated from Mandan High School in 1966. Jim enlisted in the US Navy in 1966, serving on the USS Blueback. He was honorably discharged in 1970.

He married Donna Wetsch on September 4, 1971 and lived in Mandan. He did carpentry work until 1972, when he started working for ND State Radio Communications. It was supposed to be a winter job, and 37 years later, in 2009, he retired from the state.

He was a member of the Mandan Eagles and Mandan Moose Club, where he made many lifelong friends. He spent many hours playing poker and pinochle with “the boys”. He enjoyed fishing, watching sports, heading “south”, traveling, and going south for the winter, and most of all spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.

Jim was a man of few words, but when he spoke, people listened. He will be greatly missed by his wife of 42 years, Donna, Mandan; his children: Rhonda (Jeremiah) Larson, Sioux Falls, Roslyn (David) Schwengler, Minot, Randy Bismarck, RaeAnn Boehm (Robert Schwindt), Mandan; six grandchildren: Sophie Larson, Ryley and Addison Schwengler, Reese and Rachelle Boehm, and Ryder Schwindt; his brothers and sisters in law: Fran Boehm, Gloria Dirk, Larry Wetsch, Charlotte (Dwayne) Job, Deborah (Tom) Reed, Clyde (Linda) Wetsch, and Mary (Kevin) Junker, and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Elizabeth Boehm, his parent in law, Anton A. and Elizabeth Wetsch, his brother, Robert A. Boehm and brother in law, Nicholas Dirk.
