She graduated from Flasher High School in 1956, obtained a teaching certificate from Dickinson State Teachers College in 1957, and taught school at a rural one-room school two years prior to marrying Robert E. Slavick on October 6, 1959 in Flasher. Jackie was active for many years at St. Pius Catholic Church. Through the years, she volunteered as a Sunday school teacher, lector, and Eucharistic Minister.
