Isabelle "Izzy" Schlosser, 92, passed away at the Bismarck Baptist Health and Rehab Center on October 17, 2025, surrounded by family and staff from the Baptist Home when our Lord called her home.
Mass of Christian burial will be held 10:30 A.M. on Monday, October 27, 2025, Christ the King Catholic Church with Father Cunningham celebrating. Burial will follow in the Mandan Union Cemetery. Visitation will be an hour before mass at Christ the King Church.
Isabelle was born on June 5, 1933 to Donald and Alice (MacLean) Nicholson. She was the fourth of 5 children born to Donald and Alice. She graduated from Bismarck High School in 1950. After high school she went to work as a secretary from 1950 until 1956 for Governors Fred Aandahl and later Governor Norman Brunsdale. Isabelle married Raymond Schlosser, son of Jacob and Julia, on June 4, 1955 and they celebrated their 68th wedding anniversary two months prior to Raymond's passing. Isabelle also worked two sessions as a stenographer for the North Dakota Legislature (House of Representatives). In 1961 she went to work as a legal secretary for the law firm of Fleck, Mather & Strutz, LTD., and retired from the firm at the end of 2002, putting in 42 years of diligent, dependable service. During most of her years of service, she was a member of the Legal Secretaries Organization.
From the early 1970's until the spring of 2023, Izzy and Ray could be found every Saturday after Mass at A&B Pizza in Mandan with her sister Wanda and her husband, Bob. Both Wanda and Bob passed earlier but Izzy and Ray continued this tradition with family joining them every so often.
Isabelle also loved to bowl and was in a women's bowling league for years. She would take turns bringing one of the kids with her so we could play games while she bowled. She would do anything for her kids, grandkids, and great grandkids. She attended many of their sporting activities, school functions, and could even be heard in the stands if the ref made a bad call. Izzy was also an amazing baker. She loved making and decorating cakes for everyone whether it was for a birthday, wedding, anniversary or any other special occasion. She also loved to exercise and would go to the gym with her friend and neighbor Marge and walk daily before work with her friend Gen. Isabelle had a great sense of humor, was very kind, and quick witted. She had a wonderful sense of adventure and was never afraid to try something new. She had many good friends and while in the care center she touched many of the workers there who loved her like family. She loved her wine and would have a glass every night before going to bed because it calmed her. She thought some of the workers at the nursing home were more generous with the wine than others but she was always happy to get her glass before going to bed.
Isabelle is survived by her five children: Tim of Golden Valley, AZ; Greg (Lauri) of Bismarck, ND; Doug of Boise, ID; Mike (Carol) of Selah, WA; and Mary Beth (Paul) Brucker of Bismarck, ND. She also leaves one brother, Don (Mary Ann) Nicholson of Lincoln, ND. She will also be greatly missed by her nine grandchildren: Tasha (Billy) Flikeid, Michael Schlosser, Kasey (Scott) Janz, Deandra (Corey) Bruner, Jordan (Jenny) Thilmony, Nathan (Mikaela) Schlosser, Sarah (Brian) Ouellette, Victoria (Jared) Sawle, Jacob (McKenzie) Brucker and 21 great-grandchildren.
We would like to give a special thank you to the amazing staff at Baptist Health and Rehab for the exceptional love and care they gave Izzy over the past two and half years.
We love you mom and will miss you. But we also are happy that you are no longer suffering and are with Pops (Ray), and all your family and friends who have gone before. Until we meet again.
