Henry Serr

Henry Serr, 78, Mandan, died February 3, 2014 at his residence.
Services will be held at 10:30 am on Monday, February 10, 2014 at First Lutheran Church, Mandan, ND with Rev. Jack Carlson officiating. Burial will be at the Mandan Union Cemetery.
Visitation will be held from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm on Sunday, February 9, 2014 at Weigel Funeral Home, Mandan with a prayer service at 5:00 pm. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service at the church on Monday.
Henry was born on September 11, 1935 in Java, SD to Peter and Emelia (Nathan) Serr.
He graduated from Carson High School in 1954 where he lettered in football.
Henry started his 42 year career as an Ironworker with Local 793 soon after high school where he worked at the Garrison Dam.
He married Josie Usselman on March 2, 1957 in Hazen, ND. To their marriage 5 children were born.
Hank and Josie loved hosting gatherings in their home, bowling, dancing, playing pinochle and traveling to casinos. He also enjoyed hunting and fishing. They took their children camping and had wonderful vacations to visit relatives in California and Arizona.
After his wife passed away, Henry spent time doing word search puzzles, playing pinochle and worldwide travel with his sister Elizabeth. He was an active member of the Eagles, Elks, Moose and the Good Neighbor Club of Dakota Community Bank.
Henry will be lovingly missed and forever remembered by his children, Cindy Dockter, Bismarck, Randy Serr, Mandan, Deborah (Larry) Taghon, Faribault, MN, Mike Serr (special friend Pam), Mandan and Angela (Ross) Reinbold, Bismarck; his grandchildren, Ross Hagel, Bismarck, Lance Hagel (special friends, Karey, Tylan and Arika), Mandan, April (James) Stastny, Moorhead, MN, Austin Taghon, Faribault, MN, Tyson (Jessica) Taghon, Faribault, MN and Sierra Serr, Mandan; his great grandchildren, Hunter and Shelby Hagel, Mandan, Hallie and Tanner Taghon, Faribault, MN and Ethan Stastny, Moorhead, MN; his sister, Elizabeth Farace, NJ; sister-in-laws, Pat Serr, AZ, Ann Reinhardt, Mandan, Sally (Doug) Sailer, Mandan and Judy (Jeff) Hayden, Hazen; his brother-in-laws, Cleve Rice, ID, George Usselmann, CA and Marvin (Doris) Usselmann, Hazen and many nieces and nephews and special family friend, Terry Balliet, Mandan.
Henry was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Josie; brothers, Tofield and Curtis Serr; half brothers, Albert and Arthur Serr, Edwin, Albert and Emil Bauer; half-sisters, Emma Schweigert, Alta Bossert, Lorraine Depry and Hilda Nelson.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to the Arthritis Foundation.
