Gerald "Jerry" Steier

Gerald “Jerry” Steier, 71, Mandan, formerly of Dickinson, passed away peacefully on August 26, 2025, after a four-year battle with cancer.

A Memorial Service will be held at 11 AM on Wednesday, September 3 at Weigel Funeral Home in Mandan, with Deacon Kevin Leingang officiating. Burial will follow at the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery with full military honors. Family will greet friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

Jerry was born May 22, 1954, the 3rd of 12 children to Vincent and Josie (Sticka) Steier in New England. He graduated from New England High School in 1972, and then enlisted in the US Army, serving in Germany.

In 1975, Jerry met the love of his life, Dorma Jean Fischer, and the two were married on May 28, 1976. Together, they had two children, Joshua and Jerilynn. Jerry passed away one year shy of their 50th wedding anniversary.

Jerry worked primarily in the oilfields. Prior to his retirement, he worked for Oliver County. In his younger years, Jerry was active in pool and dart leagues. He gained a passion for riding motorcycle, taking many trips to Sturgis and Red Lodge with friends. His granddaughters would always ask Papa for a bike ride and he would do just about anything for them! Another passion was working on vehicles of any kind. He could tell you the year and model of any vehicle.

Jerry is survived by his wife of 49 years, Dorma, Mandan; son, Joshua, Fargo; daughter, Jerilynn, Mandan; two granddaughters whom he loved dearly, Jayla and Jazzy Campbell; and 11 brothers, Curt (Carol), Bismarck; Conrad (Charlotte), Arizona; Neal (Arva), Dickinson; Lynn, Cherokee, OK; Gordon (Linda) Enid, OK; Elwood; Ted (Beth), Tuttle, OK; Jon (Carrie), Surrey, ND; Lee (Korene) Dickinson, ND; Myron (Kara) Baldwin, ND; and Robert (Holly), Dickinson, ND.

Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, Vince and Josie; in-laws, Dorman and Jeanette Fischer; nephews, Ryan Lynch and Derek Steier; his grandparents; and many aunts and uncles.
