George was born June 17, 1931 on the family farm east of St. Anthony, ND, the son of George and Louise (Gartner) Schwartzbauer. He attended rural school for 8 years south of the family farm near St. Anthony, ND. He served in the Army in 1953 and was discharged in 1953. He worked construction after he got out of the service. Then he worked for the Morton County Highway Department for 19 years until he retired in June 1993. Then he worked on the farm raising cattle and putting up hay, until his sons took over the farm in 2006, when his health worsened.
