George Schwartz

March 26, 1925 — August 7, 2016

George A. Schwartz, 91, Bismarck, ND formerly of Fargo, ND passed away August 7, 2016 at Sanford Health in Bismarck.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 am on Friday, July 12, 2016 at Christ the King Catholic Church, Mandan, ND with Rev. Marvin Klemmer as celebrant. Burial will be at North Dakota Veterans Cemetery with Military Honors provided by the Mandan VFW Post #707 and American Legion Post #40.

Visitation will be held Thursday, August 11, 2016 from 5:00-8:00 pm at Weigel Funeral Home, with a Knights of Columbus Rosary at 7:00 pm followed by a Parish Vigil at 7:15. Visitation will continue at Weigel Funeral Home one hour prior to the service on Friday.

George was born on March 26, 1925 to Phillip and Catherine (Berger) Schwartz in Bismarck, ND. He was raised and educated in Bismarck, graduating from St. Mary’s High School. He was in the United States Army and received a Purple Heart for a combat injury. George married the love of his life Virginia Pulkrabek on April 22, 1950 in Mandan. After their marriage they moved to Fargo, ND where George worked for International Harvester for 45 years as Parts Manager, he retired in 1985.

George was a proud lifetime member of the VFW and Knights of Columbus. He and Virginia loved to travel and saw many interesting places throughout the United States. He enjoyed old time music, baseball and NASCAR Racing. George was also very dedicated to the Retired Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP) of Fargo, ND, which he enjoyed for more than 25 years.

George will be deeply missed by his brother, Anthony “Tony” (Marge) Schwartz, Bismarck; a close niece, Riessa (Wade) Blumhagen, Lincoln, ND along with numerous nieces and nephews.

George was preceded in death by his loving wife, Virginia, who passed away in 2014; his parents; brothers, Bernard (Janice) and an infant brother, Lawrence.
