Gary J. Schultz, 70, of Mandan, passed away October 22, 2025 at Sanford Health in Bismarck following a short illness.
Gary Jerome Schultz was born on January 28, 1955 to Jim and Laura Schultz in Minot, ND. He moved to Mandan in the 1970's and worked as a DJ at the Beggar Club and filled the dance floor with the best music of the Disco era. He was recruited by Lyle Alzado to move to Denver and work as a DJ at one of Denver’s hottest nightclubs. Gary then moved to Grand Junction, CO and worked as a DJ. Gary loved living in Colorado pursuing three of his favorite things in life...music, skiing, and golf. He was a charismatic person who was a born salesman. In his career, Gary sold boats, cars, recreational vehicles, and manufactured homes. After he retired, he spent his summers working at the Bridges Golf Course in Montrose, CO. He then moved back to Mandan in 2021 with his fiancé Jessie Heck and worked at several different golf courses. Gary started golfing when he was eight years old and was passionate about the sport his entire life.
Gary is survived by his fiancé Jessie Heck; his sister Gail Hansen; brother-in-law Allan Hansen; nephew Tyler Hansen; uncle Jerry Schultz; and many cousins who were a big part of his happiest childhood memories; Jessie’s Pomeranian “Diamond”; along with many, many friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, both paternal and maternal grandparents, aunts, uncles, and several cousins.
A visitation will be held at Weigel Funeral Home in Mandan on Monday, October 27 from 2:00-4:00 pm. There will be a celebration of Gary’s life next summer in Colorado at a date to be announced.
