Frances R. Kary, 95, passed away December 23, 2020 with family by her side at a Bismarck care center.
A private family service will be held at a later date with interment in the Mandan Union Cemetery. The private service will be livestreamed at 1:00 PM on Tuesday, January 12, 2021.
Frances “Fran” was born October 29, 1925 near Center, ND to John & Eleanor (Scheetz) Hoffman. She graduated from Center High School and received a teaching certificate from Dickinson State College. Fran loved to share stories of the one-room schoolhouses in which she taught.
During World War II, Fran had worked in the shipyards in Washington state. In 1948, she married George J. Kary. They made their home in Mandan where they raised three daughters. Fran was a Charter Member of the Moose Lodge, and was active with the Eagles, the V.F.W., Christian Mothers, Catholic Daughters, and her bowling league.
Fran loved people and she showed it. Her outgoing personality served her well in the years she worked at Jerry’s Supper Club and the Bismarck Holiday Inn. Her many friends and large extended family could count on her to be game for any outing and to remember their special occasions. Her pinochle deck was always close at hand!
Fran’s smile and encouragement will be missed by many, including the staff and residents of Edgewood on Dominion where she resided for the last decade.
She is survived by her daughters, Nicci (Terry) Clark, Joy (Ken) Olsen, and Shelley (Wayne) Gensrich; grandchildren, Anne (Matt) Grady, Nathan Clark, Tyler (Jazmin) Gensrich, and Bethany Gensrich; as well as 10 great grandchildren.
The family plans to host a celebration of Fran’s fabulous life in 2021 when it is safe to gather. There will be no public services at this time.
