Eugene Gabel

Eugene Gabel, 86, of Bismarck, died April 21, 2018 at the Baptist Care Center, Bismarck, surrounded by family.

Services will be held at 11:00 am on Thursday, April 26, 2018 at McCabe United Methodist Church, Bismarck, ND with Rev. Mark Ehrmantraut officiating. Burial will be at Stewartdale Cemetery, east of Bismarck.

Visitation will be held from 5:00-7:00 pm on Wednesday, April 25, 2018 at Weigel Funeral Home, Mandan. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service at the church on Thursday.

Gene was born August 18, 1931 in rural Bismarck, the son of Leo and Violet (Meier) Gabel. He grew up on a farm in Bismarck.  Gene married Anna Malard on August 8, 1953 and to this union their 5 children were born; Lyle, Kevin, Roxanne, Mark and Shelly.  Gene was a mason and enjoyed hunting, fishing, taking care of his yard and tinkering.  He loved being outdoors walking with his dog, and working in the garden.  He cherished his family and took great pride in spending time with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Eugene is survived by his sons, Lyle (Debbie) and Mark (Roxie); daughters, Roxanne (Chuck) Serr and Shelly (Al) Kostelecky, all of Bismarck.  Grandchildren, Jessica Gabel (Steve Marquardt), Mandan, Cody Serr, Bismarck, Brandy (Brock) Kiefel, Lincoln, Chad Gabel, Mandan,  Brandi (Jeremy) Sonneson, Tyler Kostelecky (Thea Sickler), Bismarck, SSG Lacey (SSG Brandon) Reed, Raeford, NC and SPC Hunter Gabel, Bismarck; 12 great-grandchildren; brothers, Don and Les (Vicki); sister, Linda (Duane) Hill.

Gene is preceded in death by the love of his life, Anna; infant son, Kevin; parents; brothers, Gerald and Leonard; sister, Katherine Krank and seven of her children.
