Emma was born September 2, 1940, to Peter and Margaret (Deichert) Hartman in Elgin, ND. She grew up on her family farm with several siblings.
She enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her nieces and nephews. Going for walks with the dogs around the farm was one thing she loved doing. She also enjoyed gardening, playing cards, listening to old time music, baking, and cooking German dishes.
Emma started her education at the Two-Mile Country School, two miles south of the family farm. She then went to Brisbane School through the eighth grade. She finished her education through the 12th grade with correspondence while being a hot lunch cook at the Brisbane School. She grew up with a great work ethic and was still working till the end. She always said, “I want to work till I die, instead of sitting in a rocking chair”. She worked for 30 years for Fr. Wilford, at a nursing home in Glen Ullin for five years, at a nursing home in Dickinson for 14 years, and her most recent job was at Kentucky Fried Chicken.
Emma will be deeply missed by sisters, Ann Marie Reisenauer of Washburn, Pauline Hartman of Carson; brothers, Paul (Doris) Hartman of Carson, Casper (Melodie) Hartman of Carson; sister-in-law Dian Hartman; and numerous nephews and nieces and great nephews and nieces.
