Emma Dirk, 91, Mandan, died March 17, 2015 at St. Vincent’s Care Center in Bismarck.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 am on Friday, March 20, 2015, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Mandan, ND with Rev. Shane Campbell as celebrant. Burial will be at Mandan Union Cemetery.

Visitation will be held Thursday, March 19, 2015, from 4:00-9:00 pm at Weigel Funeral Home, with a Rosary/Parish Vigil at 7:00 pm. Visitation will continue at the church one hour prior to the service on Friday.

Emma was born on March 3, 1924, in Shields, ND to Nicholas and Margaret (Wingenbach) Fergel. She married Rasmus Dirk on October 30, 1944. Together they farmed around McIntosh, SD and began their family. In the fall of 1952 they moved to the Mandan area where they were blessed with four more children. Emma was a hardworking and loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She provided daycare for many years in which she took care of most of her grandchildren. She loved to cook and share meals with her family; her specialty was German food. Emma enjoyed fishing and crocheting; she made many gifts including blankets, dolls, scarves and clowns. Emma will always be remembered for her full kitchen, loving heart and joy for her family. Babies always brought a smile to Emma’s face.

Emma will be deeply missed by her daughters, Bonnie (Kenneth) Miller, Ft. Rice, ND, Andreen O’Neill, Mandan, ND, Annette (Pat) Yauney, Mandan, ND, Debbie (Paul) Martin, Lincoln, ND; sons, James (Lucretia) Dirk, Zap, ND, Leslie (Diane) Dirk, Mandan, ND; daughters-in-law, Phyllis Dirk, Mandan, ND, Gloria Dirk, Bismarck, ND and Sandy Dirk, Mandan, ND; sister, Verna Bachmeier, Bismarck, ND; sisters-in-law, Virginia Fergel, Mandan, ND, Theresa Fergel, Mandan, ND and Dorothy Fergel, Madesto, CA; 30 grandchildren and 41 great-grandchildren.

Emma was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Rasmus; sons, Roger, Nick and Mainard; sister, Elizabeth (Teanus) Loeb; brothers, John, Anton, Adolf (Verna) and Greg Fergel and brother-in-law, Leo Bachmeier.
