.Emil J. Riehl, 91, Bismarck formerly of Mandan, died February 27, 2016 at St. Vincent’s Care Center in Bismarck.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 am on Saturday, March 5, 2016 at Christ the King Catholic Church, Mandan, ND with Most Reverend David D. Kagan, D.D., P.A., J.C.L. as celebrant. Burial will be at St. Gertrude Catholic Cemetery, Raleigh, ND following the Mass.

Visitation will be held Friday, March 4, 2016 from 3:30-8:00 pm at Weigel Funeral Home, with a Knights of Columbus Rosary at 7:00 pm followed by a Parish Vigil. Visitation will continue at the church one hour prior to the service on Saturday.

Emil was born on January 1, 1925 to Melchoir and Emma (Wagner) Riehl in Raleigh, ND. He was raised and educated in the Raleigh area graduating from Raleigh High School as Valedictorian. Emil married Irene Gustin on June 24, 1946 in Flasher, ND, Irene died on November 13, 2008. They took over the family farm with his brother, Ted. They farmed and ranched until retiring and moving to Mandan, ND.

Emil entered the Deaconite Program in 1989; he became a Deacon in 1992. He administered the Hospice Program in his Deaconite Program. Emil was a North Dakota Representative from District 35 for 12 years; he was on the board of Mor-Gran-Sou Electric for 15 years of which 8 years as president. Emil was active in hospice and right to life organizations. Emil and Irene enjoyed traveling they visited relatives in California, Florida and Arizona. They also traveled to Europe and visited the Holy Land. He enjoyed helping his sons with farm work.

Emil will be deeply missed by daughters, Judy (Al) Adler, Palm Desert, CA., Colette Riehl, Los Angeles, CA, Margaret (Chris) Riehl, Bismarck, ND and Emilie (Mike) Gibbons, Toulouse, France; sons, David (Gretchen), Dallas, TX., Thomas (Sharon), Bonduel, WI., Andrew (Mona), Mandan, ND, James, Henderson, TX, William (Gina), Raleigh, ND and Richard (Amy), Dalton, PA.; 25 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren; sisters, Dorothy Leader, South Bend, IN and Alvina Wang, Bismarck, ND; brother, Theodore (Rose) Riehl, Flasher, ND along with numerous nieces and nephews.

Emil was preceded in death by his wife, Irene; parents; sisters, Sister Agatha Riehl and Sister Claudia Riehl and brother, Eugene.
