Elizabeth "Betty" Schwindt

Mandan

Betty Schwindt Stroh passed away peacefully in her home in Mandan, ND on Saturday, March 18, 2023 surrounded by her family.  A service of thanksgiving for her life will be held on Saturday, April 1, 2023 at 2:00 PM at First Congregational Church, United Church of Christ, Reverend Janel Kolar officiating.

Betty was born in Mandan, ND to Barbara (Fuse) and Frank Adams. She attended teaching school in Dickinson where she met Alfred Schwindt.  Betty and Alfred were united in marriage December 27, 1955 and later divorced. Betty was blessed with seven children. 

Betty taught in various country schools in New Hradec, Dunn Center and the area surrounding Dickinson.  She tended bar at the Mint Bar and was the bookkeeper for a variety of businesses including the Highway Inn auction service, German Hungarian Club, the local livestock auction houses and an excavation service. She returned to college and earned a secretarial certificate in 1975 after which she worked in various places including the ASCS office. 

She later moved to Mandan where she worked at KIST livestock, Action Movers and the ARC Aid thrift store. There she reunited with an old friend, Ray Stroh.  Betty and Ray were married in 2002. 

Her hobbies included reading, reading, reading and reading! She also enjoyed, pinochle, canasta and other card games, bowling, baking, and having coffee with her friends.  She and Ray were snowbirds, who went to Arizona and New Mexico for the winter. She was a lifetime member of the Good Sams Club, and also a member of the St. Anthony Club and German Hungarian Club.

She is survived by her children: Deborah (Gene) Koch; Laura (Dwight) Urban; Terry (Lori) Schwindt; Corinne Schwindt (Wesley Hecker); Barbara (Josh) Caperton; Rebecca (Mike) Howe; step-children: Andy (Teri) Stroh; George (Kristi) Stroh; Jimmy (Val) Stroh; as well as 21 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren; and three great-great grandchildren.  Betty was preceded in death by the father of her two youngest children, Paul Roll, her son, Paul; two grandsons, Edward Urban and Joshua Caperton; one granddaughter, Chasity Huether; one brother, Robert Adams, and her parents and step father, Jack Bunk.
