Edward Backer

A Memorial Service will be held on Tuesday, Sept 3, 2019, at 1:00 p.m. at Weigel Funeral Home, Mandan, with burial to follow.  Family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.

Ed was born on Jan 3, 1937 to Estagen and Wilhelmina (Fiet) Backer in Mandan, ND.

Ed was raised in Mandan and attended school through the 11th grade there.

He married Patricia Sabot on August 15, 1955, and they had 7 children.

Ed worked as a boilermaker all over the country for most of his working life.

He enjoyed visiting and b.s.-ing with friends and acquaintances, tending to the garden and yard, and he liked to read western books as well as the daily newspaper.

He is survived by his wife Patricia of Mandan; seven children; Rhonda Backer of Bismarck, Rachelle (Kevin) Vail of Bismarck, Mark Backer of Bismarck, Radene Backer of Bismarck, Rita Backer of Mandan, Rebecca (Gerry) Percell of Portland, OR, Roberta Gullickson of Mandan; 7 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; one brother; and two sisters; and many nieces and nephews.
