Diane Friedt, 81, of Mandan, passed away Thursday, June 5, 2025, at St. Alexius CHI.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Wednesday, June 11, 2025, at Weigel Funeral Home, with interment to follow in St. John's Cemetery. Visitation will take place from 5:00-7:00 P.M. on Tuesday, June 10, 2025, also at Weigel Funeral Home, with a Prayer Service beginning at 7:00 P.M. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service.
Diane was born December 17, 1943, to George and Erma L. (Frederick) Walker. She was raised and educated in Mandan. After graduating, she attended college and earned her LPN certification, beginning a 45-year nursing career at St. Alexius Medical Center.
Diane was a true "people person." Not long after retiring from nursing, she found her way to a new role as a greeter at Walmart in Mandan-a position that suited her perfectly. Welcoming and assisting customers, and building friendships with coworkers, brought her great joy.
Outside of work, Diane loved to bake. Sharing homemade treats with friends and family was her favorite way to show love. If she knew what your favorite dessert was, she'd make it tenfold. Scotcharoos were her signature treat, and she insisted they were best when made with Rice Krispies-not Special K.
Diane's greatest love in life was her family. Her son, James M. Friedt, born in 1964, and her grandson, Mitchell Cory Friedt, born in 1990, were the apples of her eye. She was grateful for her relationship with Jacob Friedt, which blessed them with a wonderful son. Her daughter-in-law Lisa, granddaughter, Megan, and great-grandsons-who always put a spring in her step: Lucas James and Carter David Friedt made her heart full.
She also remembered fondly her siblings and extended family: her sister, JoAnn and husband Richard Gaasland (both deceased); her brother, George and wife Charlotte; her sister, Peggy Schutt (Peggy's husband Steve is deceased); her brother, William Walker (deceased); and brother, Jerry Walker and his wife, Maria Walker (both deceased) along with many nieces and nephews who she thought the world of.
Diane was also grateful to the Friedt side of the family and her many dear friends for giving her the best life imaginable.
In her own words, Diane wished that "your time on earth be as happy and rewarding as mine was."
Jim, Lisa, Mitch, and Megan would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Stacy, Katelyn, and Kylie Aune for the care and support they provided to Diane when her family couldn’t be with her in person.
