David Patrick Montplaisir, 41, passed away on September 13th, 2026.
David was born May 9, 1985, in Bismarck, North Dakota, to Denis and Patricia Montplaisir. He graduated from Mandan High School in 2003. After high school, he studied American Sign Language and went on to work with children who were hearing impaired. He found deep fulfillment in that work and had a special ability to connect with kids.
Dave will be remembered for his laugh, incredible memory, and gentle spirit. He could remember details, conversations, and experiences with remarkable clarity. Following in the footsteps of his dad, he loved to cook, and he enjoyed preparing meals for others. Music was also an important part of his life, and he found great joy in singing while playing guitar or piano.
Dave was known for his compassionate and sensitive heart. He cared deeply about others and often noticed feelings and needs of others that some might overlook.
Dave was the very proud dad of his two sons, Kayden and Jordan. He cherished every opportunity he got to be with them. He also loved spending time with his nephews and nieces, and they loved him dearly.
Dave’s life was a journey—one marked by both joys and struggles, moments of closeness and times of distance. Yet through it all, he remained deeply loved. His story reminds us of Jesus’ parable of the prodigal son: that no matter how far someone may wander, God offers the gift of endless grace, mercy, forgiveness, and love to anyone who turns back to Him. Like the father in Jesus’ parable, Dave’s parents and family always held hope for him, welcomed every return, and cherished every moment with him. We remember his smile, his laugh, his kind spirit, and the unique presence he brought into the lives of those who knew him.
Scripture reminds us, “The Lord is near to the brokenhearted and saves the crushed in spirit.” Psalm 34:18. We are also reminded of the promise found in Lamentations 3:22-23: “The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning.” The Lord alone fully knows a person’s heart, their burdens, their battles, and every part of their story. May his family find comfort in the Lord, and may we rest in the hope of His grace and eternal peace.
Dave will be profoundly missed by his brothers, sisters-in-law, sons, nephews, nieces, extended family, and friends. Though our hearts are heavy, we take comfort that he is now at peace, embraced by Jesus’ mercy and everlasting love. He is welcomed to heaven by his beloved parents, Denis and Patricia Montplaisir.
Our hope rests in the words of Jesus: “I am the resurrection and the life. Whoever believes in me, though he die, yet shall he live.” John 11:25.
David is survived by his children, Kayden and Jordan; his brothers, Michael Montplaisir and his wife, Katie; Daniel Montplaisir and his wife, Betsy; Marc Montplaisir and his wife, Chelsi; as well as his beloved nephews and nieces: Judah, Makenna, Hannah, Madi, Timmy, Natalie, Bella, Elise, Eliana and Nico.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Denis and Patricia Montplaisir.
A memorial service celebrating Dave’s life will be held Friday, November 13, 2026, from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. at Engage Church in Mandan, North Dakota. The gathering will center on prayer, Scripture, and the sharing of stories and memories of Dave’s life. Family and friends are invited to come together in remembrance, reflection, and fellowship.
