David Kelly

David Kelly, age 83, Mandan, passed away on October 14, 2025, at Prospera Assisted Living Community in Mandan, ND.

Funeral Service will be held on Friday, October 17, 2025, at 1:00 PM at Weigel Funeral Home, Mandan. Visitation will begin one hour prior to service at 12:00 PM at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Mandan Union Cemetery.

“David Kelly was born 11-25-1941 in Havre, Montana, third child of John and Mary Kelly. After residing in various towns and states, finally settling in Laurel Montana at age 5.

Started and completed school in Laurel, graduating from high school in 1959. Then enlisting in the U.S. Army, being stationed in Colorado and Washington DC before going to Germany in February 1960. There met and married Christa Obermaier, a german citizen. Married on 12-15-1961. Released from army in November 1962.

Started working for Northern Pacific Railroad in Laurel in February 1963 and worked in car repair until May 1976. Then took a promotion to management moving to Minot North Dakota and moving again to Mandan North Dakota in January 1981. Still residing in Mandan.

Took an early retirement in July 1995.

Children born to David and Christa were as follows:

William Josef Kelly – born 2-8-1963 in Bad Tolz, Germany

James John Kelly – born 6-16-1966 in Billings, Montana

Monika Theresia Kelly – born 11-25-1967 in Billings, Montana

Barbara Karen Kelly – born 4-11-1973 in Billings, Montana

Hobbies and interests have varied over the years. Hobby ranching while still living in Montana. Snowmobiling and ice fishing while living in Minot North Dakota.

Hunting, fishing, camping, and golf in all places.”

David is survived by Christa, his wife of 63 years.

His children; William (Joan), James (Niki), Monika (Dwight), and Barbara.

His grandchildren; Austin, Aaron (Taylor), Alix, Brittni (Ben), Madison, Daniel, Kiara (Tyler), Montana, and Makella.

His great grandchildren Daven, Kira, Mika, Quintyn, Rogan, Cruz, Jade, Oliver, and Elayna.
