Daniel Joseph Hurley, 62, of Bismarck, North Dakota, passed away on March 24, 2026. Born on December 15, 1963, as a 30th birthday gift for his Dad, in St. James, Minnesota. Dan was the son of Darrell Cletus Hurley and Cyrilla Barbara Poss.
Dan grew up in Granite Falls, Minnesota, where he graduated from Granite Falls High School. Following graduation, he answered a call to serve his country by enlisting in the United States Air Force, where he trained and worked as a firefighter at Ellsworth. That experience ignited a thirty-year career serving as a firefighter in Bismarck, North Dakota. He was incredibly proud of that service.
In 1998, he married Judi Fergel, and to that union came their son, Jarrod. In later years, Dan married Darcy (Schlosser) Cermak and they spent 14 years together.
Outside of his career, he was an avid hunter and fisherman who treasured time spent with friends and family in nature, going after the big bucks and trophy fish that sometimes eluded him.
Dan was preceded in death by his parents, Darrell (Joe) and Cy, and by his sister, Laurie Bednarek. He is survived by his son, Jarrod (Darian Ross) Hurley; his sisters, LaNaye (Keith) Hennen and Lynn (Bruce) Flaata; and numerous extended family members and friends whose lives were touched by his presence.
A service honoring Dan's life is pending in Bismarck, North Dakota, and a private burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery in St. James, Minnesota.
"When it's time to remember, it is always a gift to focus on the many good moments in life. They will always outweigh the difficult." Dan was loved far more than he would have ever believed. May he be forever at peace.
