Connie Mayer

Cornelia (Connie) Catherine Mayer passed away April 15, 2024, at Edgewood Vista in Bismarck, ND.

 Connie was born on July 25, 1930, in Kidder County, ND. She was the daughter of Cornelius and Clara Motl. Connie was raised and educated in Dawson, ND. On January 28, 1950, she married Otto Mayer in Tappen, ND. In her early married years, Connie was a very industrious homemaker, caring for four children, sewing clothes, and selling cream from their small farm in Sheridan, Wyoming. Connie also worked in the lunchroom at the Sheridan Elementary School. After moving to Bismarck in 1967, Connie worked at JCPenney, Woolworths and for 20 years at Northwestern Bell (Quest) as a telephone operator and later as a draftsperson. She and Otto later moved from Bismarck to Mandan to spend summers living in their home along the river. During the winter months, they spent many happy years golfing and playing cards with friends while living at their home in Mesa, AZ.

 Connie was a hard worker; she never seemed to sit still. She expressed her great love for family and friends by always having wonderful celebrations centered around her homemade foods. She was also an avid card player always looking for someone to “spar”with.

 Connie will be sadly missed by her two sons and daughters-in-law, Greg (Gail) Mayer, Bismarck, ND, and Mike (Kelly) Mayer, Glendale, AZ; daughter and son-in-law, Pam (Harlan) Haak, Fountain Hills, AZ; she was also blessed with ten grandchildren, Robert, David, and Matthew Mayer, Brittany Mayer-Schuler, Seth Mayer, Brandon and Ryan Mayer, Weston Braun, Daniel and Andrew Haak; ten great-grandchildren; and a sister, Claire (Paul) Margerum. 

 Connie was preceded in death by her husband, Otto Stanley Mayer; son, Steve; her parents; and four brothers, Charles, Clayton, George, and Clarence Motl. 

 Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held at a later date. Memorials may be sent to the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery Foundation, 4606 Hwy 1806, Mandan, ND, 58554.
