Clara (Paul) Markel passed away Saturday, March 14, 2020 at Missouri Slope Lutheran Care Center in Bismarck, ND at the age of 94.
Visitation will be held Friday March 20, 2020 from 6:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Weigel Funeral Home, Mandan. A private Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday March 21, 2020 at 11:30 AM at Saint Joseph Catholic Church Mandan, ND with Father Josh Waltz as celebrant. A graveside service will follow the service at 12:45 PM at Mandan Union Cemetery.
Clara was born on February 12,1926 in Morton County ND to Joseph & Fracisca Paul. Clara grew up on a family farm just south of Mandan in the St Anthony area with 12 siblings, 9 brothers & 3 sisters.
She met the love of her life Egnatz Markel & married on June 12,1945. Together they had 2 daughters & a son. The couple eventually moved to Mandan where they lived until the death of her husband in 1980. In 2008 she sold her home & moved to Library Square Apartments. She resided there until which time she needed to move into a nursing facility.
She was a longtime member of St Anthony Verein & a member of the Mandan Moose Lodge. Clara loved going on outings with her family to fish and camp, trips to see her family, going to Prairie Knights Casino for a fun round of gambling at the slots. She as well, loved playing cards, her favorite being pinochle. As many of you know Clara loved to crochet...making everything she could from blankets, dish
cloths to tablecloths for family & friends.
Clara will be deeply missed by her children, son and daughter-in-law, Larry & Myra Markel of Kennewick, WA; daughter & son-in-law Donna & Larry Jenkins of Great Falls, MT; grandchildren, Patty & Kelvin Landis; Stephanie & Joe Geiger; James & Yolanta Belohlavek; Ken & Naomi Belohlavek; Mike & Heidi Belohlavek; Leda & Jim Taylor; Leane & Levi Hodgskiss & special friend Bev Rudnick; 20 great grandchildren, & 1 great great grandchild; brother-in-laws Connie (Liz ) Markel and Steve (Kay) Markel; as well as many nephew & nieces.
Clara is preceded in death by her husband, Egnatz; her parents Joseph & Francisca Markel; daughter Caroline Belohlavek; son-in law Jim Belohlavek ; daughter- in law June Markel & all her beloved brothers & sisters and a special friend Frank Schmidt.
In lieu of flowers the family request that the memorials be designated to
St. Joseph Catholic Church, 108 3rd St NE Mandan, ND 58554 or a charity of your choice in Clara’s name.
