Charlene Ost

February 24, 1944 — September 11, 2018

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, September 18, 2018 at Christ the King Catholic Church, Mandan, ND with Rev. Nick Schneider as celebrant.  Burial will follow at Mandan Union Cemetery.

Visitation will be held Monday, September 17, 2018 from 4:00-8:00 p.m. at Weigel Funeral Home, with a Rosary/Parish Vigil at 7:00 p.m. Visitation will continue at the church one hour prior to the service on Tuesday.

Charlene was born February 24, 1944 to Anton and Rose (Gerhardt) Veitenheimer.  She was born, raised and educated in Glen Ullin, North Dakota.

She married LeRoy Ost on September 25, 1964.  They were blessed with four children.

Charlene’s kindness, gentleness, and generosity of spirit endeared her to everyone who knew her.  Her quiet demeanor was combined with a positive attitude and she was not one to complain.  She looked forward to going out to lunch, casino trips, and spending time with family and friends.  Her strong Christian faith in God shined throughout her life.  Family gatherings were especially loved by all as everyone enjoyed her baking. Her love of nature was evident in making sure the birds and squirrels in her backyard are fed.

In her career as a house keeper for Med Center One and later Sanford Health, Charlene’s dedication extended many years until retiring in 2017. Though her illness was difficult, a high point and major accomplishment was a trip to Kent, WA, for her grandson’s wedding.

These fond memories will be cherished by friends and family.  We remember Charlene as a woman of quiet strength.

Charlene will be deeply missed by her daughters, LeeAnn (Randy) Binstock of New Salem, Nancy (Harvey) Schlosser of Mandan and Holly (Mike) Reichstadt of Randolph, MN; her son, Calvin Ost of Kent, WA; 8 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; her sisters, Florence Schaaf of Belle Fouche, SD, Lucille (Jerry) Bechhold of Bismarck and Betty (Bob) Baker of Bismarck; and sisters-in-law, Florence Veitenheimer of Battle Ground, WA, and Florence Veitenheimer of Battle Ground, WA.

She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Leroy; one great-grandchild, Faith Binstock; sister, Catherine Veitenheimer; brothers, Leonard (Elaine), Ralph and Ted; and her in-laws, Ted (Mary) Ost.
