Betty Smith, 87, Mandan, passed away Saturday, March 11, 2023, at Edgewood in Mandan.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 AM on Monday, March 20, 2023, at Christ the King Catholic Church in Mandan with Fr. Scott Sautner celebrating and Fr. Fred Harvey concelebrating. Burial will follow at the North Dakota Veteran’s Cemetery.
Betty was born September 28, 1935, in Mandan to Joseph B. and Sophia (Roesner) Sautner. She grew up in Mandan where she attended school through the 8th grade. In 1956, she met Warren Smith at the roller-skating rink they both frequently attended. On October 15, 1957, she and Warren were married at Christ the King Catholic Church in Mandan. The two made their home on the family farm south of Mandan where they raised their family.
To Betty, family came first and foremost. She took pride in raising her family and they meant the world to her. Family holidays were so special to her. She and Warren also loved their Saturday nights out dancing and later in life their trips to the casino. She belonged to the Homemakers Club and the VFW Auxiliary where she served as Commander for 1 year. She was also on the task force for Mothers Against Drunk Drivers.
Betty is survived by her husband, Warren, Mandan; her sons, William (Amy), St. Louis, MO, Stephen (Alison), Mandan, and Jason (Monica), Bismarck; 10 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren; along with her sister, Enid Crowe; half-sister, Sheila Smith; and half-brothers, David and Stuart Sautner.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two daughters, Christine and Kimberly Smith; son, Kevin Smith; and granddaughter, Courtney Smith.
