On Tuesday, January 28th, 2025, Alvin Raymond Mehring, 84, went to be with his Heavenly Father. After a lengthy battle with Parkinson's, he came to rest at home, in Bismarck, with all of his children and much of his family by his side.
A funeral service will be held 10:00 AM Monday, February 3rd at the Church of Corpus Christi in Bismarck. Burial will follow at 1:00 PM Monday at the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM Sunday at Weigel Funeral Home in Mandan followed by a 7:00 PM Prayer Service.
Alvin was born in Fargo, ND on March 21, 1940 to Bill and Magdalena Boelich. Lena later remarried Herman Mehring. The Mehring family resided and farmed in the Edmonds, ND area and had three more children; Alice, Marge and Linda.
Alvin graduated from high school in Carrington, ND. Alvin served in the National Guard for 3 years. He met the love of his life, Carol Clapper, who he married on June 3, 1959 in Sykeston, ND. Alvin and Carol went on to have four beautiful children Bryan, Greg, Melissa and Cloris.
In the process of raising their children they moved from Carrington, ND to Mandan, ND. For the last several years, they have enjoyed life at their condo in Bismarck. Alvin's main occupation was a truck driver, where he owned two trucks of his own for a time.
Over the years, Alvin really enjoyed camping and fishing for walleye out in the boat with his family. He enjoyed caring for a very large, immaculate garden over the years. Once they moved to their condo, gardening continued but was limited to their balcony. Alvin belonged to the Knights of Columbus in Mandan and was a "star" Shamrock salesman, raising money for organizations such as the Boys Ranch in Minot, ND. Alvin enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his kids, grandkids, and great grandkids. He will always be known for his delicious malts and root beer floats.
He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
Alvin is survived by his wife, Carol; two sons, Bryan (Wanda) of Lincoln, ND, & Greg (BiBi) of Mandan, ND; two daughters, Melissa (Mike), and Cloris (Gregg) of Bismarck, ND; his nine grandchildren, Trent, Theresa, Sarah, Nathan, Alexis, Sabrena, Nicholas, Gabrielle, and Madison; five great grandchildren, Kendra, Adalyn, Brayson, Eva, and Sadie; and three sisters, Alice Hareland of Albuquerque, NM, Marge Patzer of Jamestown, ND, and Linda Szarkowski of Jamestown, ND.
