Albert Ternes

Albert "Al" T. Ternes, 82, Bismarck, passed away November 20, 2016 at his residence.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 am on Friday, November 25, 2016 at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Bismarck, ND with Rev. Msgr. Gene Lindemann as celebrant. Burial will be at St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery with Military Honors provided by the Bismarck VFW Post #1326.

Visitation will be held Wednesday, November 23, 2016 from 4:00-8:00 pm at Weigel Funeral Home, with a Knights of Columbus Rosary at 7:00 pm followed by a Parish Vigil. Visitation will continue at the church one hour prior to the service on Friday.

Al was born on December 21, 1933 to Nick and Rose (Barth) Ternes in Strasburg, ND. He was raised and educated in the Strasburg area. He proudly served his country in the United States Army. Al married Alvina Weigel on November 3, 1962 at St. Bonafice Catholic Church rural Napoleon. He worked for the State of North Dakota in the State Radio Division for 34 years. Al was an outgoing and friendly man who enjoyed visiting and socializing with his many family and friends. He loved when his family would all get together for special gatherings. He was always willing to help anybody that needed him. He was very inventive and could fix about anything. He devised an intercom system in his house in the 80's that worked over the telephone. He was a man ahead of his time. He was a long time member of the Knights of Columbus, serving as activities director where he would do a lot of the meal prep for their Knights of Columbus Campouts. He was also very active in St. Mary's Catholic Church, in many different capacities over the years.

Al will be deeply missed by his loving wife of 54 years Alvina; daughters, Karen (David) Horner, Mandan, ND and Brenda (Fiance, Anthony Marquez) Bixler, Denver, CO; sons, Nick Ternes, Sioux Falls, SD and Steve (Alena) Ternes, Fargo, ND; 4 grandchildren, Blake and Cole Bixler and Jonathan and Joshua Ternes; sisters, Lorraine Bossert, Mandan, ND, Lillian Volk, Bismarck, ND, Jeanie Kellar, Bismarck, ND Kathy (Al) Nagel, Bismarck, ND and Margaret (LeRoy) Mertz, Bismarck, ND; brothers, Leo (Julie), Bismarck, ND, Richard (Marilyn), Lumberton, TX and Willie, Scottsdale, AZ.

Al was preceded in death by his parents, Nick and Rose; sister, Ivy Jarnigan; brothers-in-law, Eddy Bossert, James Volk and Reinhold Kellar.

In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials to the St. Mary's Catholic Church.
